EDGY acts a far cry from traditional clowns and jugglers will perform at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm in April as part of CircusFest.
As a former train turntable shed, the Roundhouse looks uncannily like a circus big top. Among the highlights will be Trash City, a sensation at last year’s Glastonbury Festival, so I’m told. Apparently their new show is a bit racy. It will reportedly be for over 18s only.
• The audience for Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake at Sadler’s Wells got a special treat last Thursday when they watched a “curtain raiser” performed by young people.
Karla McKenzie-Johnson, 23, from Newington Green, whose ambition is to be a professional dancer, said she was thrilled to be performing at the venue.
The event was arranged in partnership between Sadler’s Wells’ community and education department and Re:bourne, the education arm of Matthew Bourne’s dance company.
• Spotted at and event called The Writers’ Rave at the Central School of Speech and Drama this week: actor and playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah. See this week's review for a round-up of the event.
• Congratulations to the winners of our Rites of Privacy competition: Ralph Barber, S Davis, HF Rose, Elizabeth Connolly and Charles Okigbo, who’ll receive two tickets each.
