So Death in Vegas are opening the Camden Crawl at Koko, Akala’s Hip Hop Shakespeare Co are signed up and the daytime programme revealed.
Clear your diary, postpone all mini-break plans for the Bank Holiday (May 4-6), your time will be better spent trawling for new talent at this year’s Camden Crawl. Weekend passes and opening night party tickets are on sale now.
• Electronic beats supremo DJ Krush is bringing Coldcut, Anchorsong and Kidanevil to join him when he plays The Forum on Jan 28 to mark his 20th anniversary tour.
• The retro poster for this caught my eye and with Hidden Door Club’s garage, psychedelia and beat playlist all on vinyl, their Bonniwell Music Machine tribute night sounds promising. Head to The Elixir Bar, 162 Eversholt Street, on Feb 3 – free entry.
• Floating Palace at Barbican (Feb 8) sounds intriguing. KT Tunstall, Eliza & Martin Carthy, Krystle Warren and Howe Gelb gather for a night of collaborations, experiments and live folk jamming, accompanying each other on songs they know and songs they’ve only just met.
• How did Dave, that channel best known for QI and Top Gear repeats, manage to secure new witty legal drama Suits? Regardless, it’s a smart signing and well worth watching if only to appreciate the soundtrack person (what is their job title?) who has so far squeezed The Black Keys, The Airborne Toxic Event and The XX in among the array of fine tunes on the playlist.
• Apparently Pete Doherty was messing around on The Monarch’s untuned piano on Monday but didn’t play anything noteworthy.
• Shame Lana Del Rey was too ill to play Koko on Tuesday. I hear a number of heartbroken critics were seen looking lost in Mornington Crescent on learning they wouldn’t see the pouty one in the flesh. Hey, they still got to see The Maccabees so why the long face?
• The Wu Tang Clan seem to love London. This time GZA’s back, playing Islington Academy (Jan 31).
