A celebration of sibling harmony will be on show above the Magdala Pub in South End Green next month. Author Edmund Bealby-Wright is launching his award-winning book This Farewell Symphony, about Joseph Haydn.
His sister, Sarah Bealby Wright – both are from Parliament Hill – has formed a string quartet and will take the audience on an “inspirational musical tour” celebrating the great composer.
The Quartet à Tête will reveal a hidden side to Haydn.
As a young composer he wrote more than 100 symphonies for his patron, as well as operas and simple pieces for the Prince to play on his favourite instrument, the neglected baryton.
Edmund, 50, will read extracts from his novel and hear music that Haydn played when the Prince wasn’t listening.
In these revolutionary works, the author maintains, Haydn was at his most inventive and influential.
• The event is Upstairs at the Magdala Tavern, 23 South Hill Park, NW3, on February 2, from 8pm, tickets £7 (includes discount on book purchase).
Space is limited so book in advance by emailing edmundbw@gmail.com. Book dinner from 6.30pm from
