Choral societies are demonstrating their vocal skills over the next few weeks, starting on Saturday with the Highgate Choral Society.
The HCS under conductor Ronald Corp is taking on Brahms’ German Requiem and Poulenc’s Gloria in All Hallows’ Church, Gospel Oak.
Outstanding Irish soprano Anna Devin is singing with the choir again.
Next up on November 19 in St Mary-the-Virgin, Primrose Hill, is the Camden Chamber Choir conducted by Peter Lea-Cox.
It’s taking a journey through five centuries of French music with Mouton, Marais, Couperin, Saint-Saens, Faure and Duparc.
Saturday, November 26, has two choirs on the go. In St Mary-the-Virgin, Primrose Hill, the Camden Choir under conductor Julian Williamson is taking on the huge challenge of Bach’s B minor mass.
The same evening in Rosslyn Hill Chapel, Hampstead, a programme celebrating English music is being presented by the Hampstead Chamber Choir.
On Friday December 9, in St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, Holborn Viaduct, the City Chorus is giving a rare performance of Eric Thimans’ Christmas cantata The Nativity, followed by carols.
Three choral societies are in action on Saturday, December 10: The North Camden Chorus is singing Haydn’s Nelson Mass in St Mary Brookfield on Dartmouth Park Hill; the Islington Choral Society is performing Vivaldi’s Gloria and other pieces at St Augustine’s, Highbury; and the Royal Free Music Society is singing Handel’s Messiah in St Mark’s, Regent’s Park.
