Rock and Pop: Review - Twisted Christmas at the Barbican

RECIPE for a twisted Christmas. Take the main stage in the Barbican, sprinkle with a grand piano, brass section and various other instruments.
Start with a Carol of Bagpipes then slowly stir in some traditional Icelandic tunes.
Leave to settle for five minutes or so then add a helping of Josephine Foster and an urban choir to taste. We used Sense of Sound.
At this point make sure that the mix is holding together. If not, a pinch of Jeremy Hardy does the job. Chuck in a large helping of Ed Harcourt and allow to stand for 20 minutes.
Blend in The 12 Days of Yuletide Alisdair Roberts, add In the Bleak Midwinter, on helium, and a handful of Polly Scattergood along with some more Jeremy Hardy to taste.
Before serving cover in Eliza Carthy and a large dollop Richard Hawley, Santa Claus is Back in Town.
There you have the perfect yuletide concert. Twisted indeed.
