Simon Callow and Harry Enfield are not the most obvious choices as co-stars.

But they have been teamed up together in a British comedy out this week called Acts of Godfrey.

Set in a country house hotel where there is one of those vile self-confidence building courses being run (called Win! Only Win!), this dark comedy is ridden through with catchy dialogue for the players to get to grips with and Callow’s character, course guru Godfrey, has some juicy stuff to get to grips with. Hats off to director Johnny Daukes.

• Russian cinema society Kino Klub is screening the historical drama Tsar and it includes a question-and-answer session afterwards with director Pavel Lungin. It tells the story of the conflict between Ivan the Terrible and his subjects. Lungin says he has tried to show the link between the 16th-century political climate and that of the USSR under Stalin. It’s at the Apollo Cinema Piccadilly on Tuesday (January 31) at 8pm, and Saturday, February 4, at 2.30pm. Visit www.russianfilmclub.co.uk

• Finally, I gather the Curzon Soho cinema has been hosting sell-out speed dating events, where you show up and watch a movie with a stranger, and then have a few drinks in the bar afterwards and chat with similarly cine-literate folks. They are due to hold an all-female one on Tuesday, February 7, screening Martha Marcy May Marlene. Visit speeddating@curzoncinemas.com
