Police hunt thief who stabbed DIY shop assistant

POLICE are hunting a shoplifter who stabbed a shop assistant who had pursued him down the road.

The thief had helped himself to stock at a DIY shop in Tottenham Court Road, Fitzrovia. The employee was later stabbed several times in the arm with a large kitchen knife, officers said.

Detectives today (Monday) released CCTV footage of their main suspect as they launched an appeal for help. The incident took place at around 6.40pm on Wednesday January 29.

Detective Superintendent Raffaele D'Orsi, of Camden Police, insisted said that "stabbings and knife crime in general are very rare in Camden," adding: "So when offence as horrific as this does take place it is important that the offender is captured quickly." 

He said people could call Camden police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
