A WOMAN whose body was found in Regent's Canal last week has not yet been identified and her case passed to Camden Missing Person's Unit.

The victim, who is thought to be of Asian origin, was discovered by a passer-by as he walked along the towpath near Royal College Street, in Camden Town, at around 8.20am on Thursday.

Police officers removed the body from the water with the help of the London Ambulance Service and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday a spokeswoman for the Met had said that the case had been handed over to the Camden Missing Persons Unit.

A spokesman from the Met Police said today (Monday) that no formal identification had taken place and that he was unaware if the Missing Persons Unit was involved.

He said: “We are still waiting for officers to come back to us about the post-mortem. We are waiting for the officers to tell us if it has taken place. At this early stage an ID wouldn't happen until the post-mortem comes back."
