THE driver of a lorry who fatally struck a 97-year-old grandmother just over a year ago has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Joao Pedro Correia Lopez, 56, of Stratford, also pleaded guilty to a second charge of knowingly causing the recording of false data relating to digital driving work records, when he appeared at Isleworth Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday).
He was denied bail and His Honour Judge Matthews told him: “The fact that I order a pre-sentence report is no indication that the court will pass anything other than an immediate custodial sentence.”
Nora Gutmann, from Kilburn, died in hospital shortly after the collision in Marylebone on Friday, June 17.
Ms Gutmann was born in Germany and moved to London in the 1930s to escape the Nazis. An inquest is expected to take place later this year.
