A man of God, and great taste in poets!

The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams at Argyle Square Primary School

THE Archbishop of Canterbury is a man of my taste, it seems.

A poet, and a prolific writer of books, he told a colleague his favourite poet was W H Auden and recalled learning Alfred Lord Tennyson, by rote, as a child and rattled off a line to prove it.

“Break, break, break, On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!” he recited.

But his favourite poets are WH Auden and Geoffrey Hill.

We met him at him at Argyle Square Primary School where he was promoting National Poetry Week.

The Archbishop is pictured on page one with Father Chris Cawse Parish, priest at Holy Cross Church Cromer Street, Argyle headteacher Laura Wynne, and pupils Taseen Rahmen and Amina Khatun.
