• AN excellent and very well attended debate on HS2, on November 9, was ably chaired by LSE’s Professor Tony Travers.
But organiser Fran Heron had one real problem in advance: Despite the three national political parties’ charm offensive to stuff us up on HS2, she could not find any high profile speakers in favour. David Prout, director general of HS2, and the DfT failed to nominate anyone.
And where oh where was HS2’s progenitor?
I echo the view of your correspondent Tim Stockton (Letters, October 31) in deploring Lord Adonis’s refusal to appear at any public meeting on HS2 in Camden.
In fact his last outing here was to a small private Labour Party group meeting in Swiss Cottage.
Not good enough for the Baron of Camden who is now HS2’s chief flag waver.
