Published: 26 January, 2012

Hannah Lowe’s anthology  The Hitcher (published by The Rialto, £5.50) has been one of the most highly and widely praised poetry collections of the past two years, and now she is joining forces with other poets to present an evening of readings in aid of a homeless shelter.

Lowe, a teacher at the City and Islington College in Camden Road, has also written a new book – Chick – based on the life of her father, to be published next year.

Part Jamaican, part Chinese, her dad made a living in London gambling dens and has provided her with a topic for searing poetry.

She is joined at the reading next Friday by Ruth O’Callaghan, Lorraine Mariner, Marie-Elizabeth Mali and Leah Fritz.

The event, which will raise money for the Cold Weather Shelter, will be held at the Trinity United Reform Church, Buck Street, Camden Town, on Friday February 3, 6.30-10pm. Entry £5 (£4 concessions). Wine and soft drinks available.
