Buckers’ last stand

Jonny Bucknell and the bendy bus make it into the history books

THE one-of-a-kind Conservative councillor Jonny Bucknell has been up to one of his quixotic adventures again.

A despiser of bendy buses, Buckers – as some of his Tory colleagues call him –  decided he would wave them on their merry way properly when they were taken off London’s streets a couple of weekends ago.

He worked out how he could be the final passenger on a bendy bus in capital, carefully studying the timetables.

His mission sent him, not on a journey on the N29 through Camden Town, but way out west on a 207 heading to Hanwell.

So, there he was, in the middle of the night, a fair old hike from home, the last passenger shouting: Good riddance.

The last bendy-bus trundled away to a depot, replaced by a double decker, and Jonny headed back home, with a possible place in London’s history books.
